Description

Please note: THIS IS A HALF BOTTLE

An award-winning medium-sweet Madeira from the talented and patient house of D’Oliveiras.

This medium bodied, moderately sweet wine is well known for its pleasing flavour and intense bouquet. Maturation took place in old oak casks for three years. Ideal with cheeses or as a digestif.

The fermenting juice, which is mostly made from Tinta Negra Mole grapes, is fortified before travelling through the Estufa system, a maturing method that is exclusive to Madeira. The wine is gradually heated to above 40°C over the course of about three months, and then it is allowed to cool. It is then matured in oak barrels for three years prior to bottling. Its texture has grown richer and more nuanced throughout this time, with notes of caramel, hazlenuts, and raisins. very gentle and generous, with a little sweetness that balances it out.

One of the major historic Madeira houses, Pereira d'Oliveira was established in 1820 by Joao Pereira d'Oilvera and is based in the island's capital, Funchal. Anibal, Luis, and Felipe d'Oliveira, descendants of the fifth generation, are currently in charge of it.

Madeira

Madeira, an island located in the North Atlantic Ocean, is renowned for its unique and fortified wines, which are integral to its wine heritage. The island’s subtropical climate, combined with its rugged terrain and volcanic soils, creates an exceptional terroir for viticulture.
The area is particularly famous for its fortified wines, which undergo a distinctive aging process involving heat and oxidation, known as estufagem. This process imparts a characteristic complexity and longevity to the wines. Madeira wines are available in a range of styles, from dry to sweet, and are made from several grape varieties, including Sercial, Verdelho, Bual, and Malvasia. These wines are noted for their rich, nutty flavours, caramel notes, and remarkable aging potential.
Historically, Madeira’s winemaking tradition dates back to the 15th century, with its wines being highly prized and exported globally. Today, it continues to combine traditional winemaking methods with modern techniques, offering a unique and storied wine experience that reflects its rich heritage and distinctive climate.
