Description

Morgon Cote du Py has a very firm, stony terrain which produces more age-worthy wines. They use a ‘systeme de grillage’ for increased contact with the skins to bring out the full character and potential of the wine. This helps create a richer and fleshier wine. It's deliciously juicy fruit helps keep it a delightful Beaujolais. Serve with meats in sauces, beef, pork or cheese.

Domaine De La Chaponne

Domaine de la Chaponne is a small, family-run Beaujolais estate crafting elegant Gamay wines from granitic soils in crus like Chiroubles and Morgon. Their wines emphasise bright red fruit, floral lift, and freshness, often with silky tannins and moderate ageing potential. Winemaking follows traditional Beaujolais methods, notably semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters and gentle extraction, alongside sustainable vineyard practices. The result is perfumed, terroir-driven wines that balance vibrant fruit, minerality, and finesse.

Beaujolais

Beaujolais, located just south of Burgundy in eastern France, is a vibrant and diverse wine region best known for its light, juicy reds made from the Gamay grape. Though often associated with the youthful and fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, the region offers far more depth, particularly in its ten crus—villages such as Morgon, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent—where wines show complexity, structure, and ageing potential. With granite-rich soils and a warmer climate than northern Burgundy, Beaujolais produces wines that balance freshness with expressive fruit. Increasingly, growers are embracing sustainable and organic practices, and the region is enjoying renewed attention for its quality, versatility, and approachability.
