Description

Domaine de Forges, a family-run winery for five generations, excels in Chenin Blanc from their 50 hectares of sustainably farmed vines in the Loire Valley. The 2021 vintage faced challenges with spring frost but ultimately yielded fruit with exceptional concentration. The vineyards, on heat-retaining schist soils, are managed to ensure sunlight exposure and ripening, with manual green harvesting and summer thinning.

Winemaking involves indigenous yeast fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, halted by crossflow filtration to produce a sweet wine with lower sulphur levels. The wine is tank-aged to maintain fruit purity.

Tasting notes reveal an exquisite sweet wine, aromatic with exotic fruits and dried apricot, balanced by fresh acidity and mineral complexity, leading to a long, persistent finish. This 100% Chenin Blanc wine showcases Domaine de Forges’ commitment to quality and the unique terroir of the Loire Valley.

Domaine des Forges

In 1890 the Domaine des Forges was established by Mr Pierre Robineau, grocer and cloth merchant, on two hectares of vineyard called “le Clos des Forges” which gave its name to the domain. Since then, five generations of winegrowers have succeeded one another in the family, making the Domaine des Forges a historic and recognized house among the Loire Valley estates. For more than 20 years, Stéphane and Séverine Branchereau have been striving to perpetuate this heritage, balancing respect for tradition and innovation. With the 2019 vintage, the Domaine des Forges had the honour of having the highest HVE standard in biodiversity.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley in France is a prestigious wine region renowned for its diverse wines and picturesque landscapes. Stretching along the Loire River, it benefits from a varied climate and a range of soil types, ideal for viticulture. It is particularly famous for its white wines, including the crisp and mineral-rich Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the aromatic Chenin Blanc from Vouvray and Saumur. The area also produces excellent reds, such as the light and fruity Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil. Rosé and sparkling wines, like Crémant de Loire, add to the diversity of the region. With its rich winemaking heritage, varied terroirs, and high-quality wines, the Loire Valley offers an exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking both classic and innovative wines.
