Description

For more than 30 years, the estate has been managed successfully by Bernard Chauvet, who joined his daughter Céline Chauvet 10 years ago, who is responsible for winemaking and estate management.

The Vacqueyras vineyard is essentially a singale plot, situated on the plateau of Vacqueyras. The soil is composed of pebbles and clayish-limestone, which are perfect for the Grenache and Syrah grapes.

The vinification is traditional, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. The grapes are destemmed but slightly crushed. The maceration lasts 10 to 12 days to obtain maximum colour, concentration and aromatic compounds.

This is a generous wine with ever-present tannins, presenting lovely fruity notes. The Grapillon d'Or Vacqueyras is a slightly lighter, less dense variation on our ever popular Gigondas from the same producer.  It displays more perfume and is more deft in its structure with bright energetic red fruits, raspberry, wild strawberry on both nose and palate.  A beautiful addition to our fantastic Southern Rhone range.

This wine is perfect with leg of lamb, beef with wine sauce, duck filet, beef, risotto, grilled meat, summer dishes and cheese.

Domaine du Grapillon d'Or

The Domaine du Grapillon d'or was built in 1806 although the Chauvet family had been present in Gigondas, in the heart of Provence since 1630. Since that date, numerous developments have been carried out by successive generations. 30 years ago, Celine, the 9th generation, joined her father at the estate to take charge of the winemaking and management. The 14-hectare vineyard in Gigondas, which is mainly located on the hillsides, is mainly composed of Grenache and Syrah.

Southern Rhone

The Southern Rhône, a renowned wine region in southeastern France, is celebrated for its diverse and robust wines. Benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, it is ideal for viticulture. The Southern Rhône is famous for its blends, particularly from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, producing rich, full-bodied reds with complex flavours of dark fruit, spices, and herbs. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most prestigious appellation, known for its powerful and age-worthy wines. It also excels in producing aromatic whites and refreshing rosés. With its varied terroir and traditional winemaking techniques, the Southern Rhône offers a captivating wine experience for enthusiasts seeking high-quality and flavourful wines.
