Description

This naturally made pét-nat rosé from Gamay grapes pours a delicate pale pink with a hint of orange. Lively, fine bubbles lift subtle aromas of stony strawberries, florals and a touch of minerality. The palate is crisp and bright, with gentle notes of strawberry, blood orange and bitter grapefruit. A thread of refreshing acidity balances the slight residual sugar, leading to a clean, slightly off-dry finish with a whisper of amaro. At 11.5% ABV, it’s perfect with cheese or fruit.

Domaine Jean Maupertuis

Jean Maupertuis is widely regarded as a pioneer of natural, sulphur-free winemaking in Auvergne. Since founding his eponymous estate in 1996, he has cultivated around 4 hectares across high-altitude volcanic basalt, sand, and marl soils. His vineyards, some over 40 to 100 years old, grow Gamay d’Auvergne, Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc, Pinot Noir, Noirfleurien, and a little Chardonnay, all farmed organically and harvested by hand.

In the cellar, grapes are hand-sorted and typically undergo cold semi-carbonic or full carbonic maceration with native yeasts. Fermentation begins in tanks before ageing in old barrels. The wines are bottled unfiltered and without added sulphur, producing vibrant, light-bodied wines that capture the freshness and volcanic character of Auvergne.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley in France is a prestigious wine region renowned for its diverse wines and picturesque landscapes. Stretching along the Loire River, it benefits from a varied climate and a range of soil types, ideal for viticulture. It is particularly famous for its white wines, including the crisp and mineral-rich Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the aromatic Chenin Blanc from Vouvray and Saumur. The area also produces excellent reds, such as the light and fruity Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil. Rosé and sparkling wines, like Crémant de Loire, add to the diversity of the region. With its rich winemaking heritage, varied terroirs, and high-quality wines, the Loire Valley offers an exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking both classic and innovative wines.
