Description

Stephanie is the eldest daughter of Alain Maurel, the creator of Maison Ventenac. Now at the head of the estate, Stephanie is carrying on the family tradition while adding her own fresh, modern touch. This Merlot is therefore dedicated to her: although an ancient and sometimes austere variety, the Stephanie Cuvee has achieved the feat of reinterpreting this all too well-known grape and giving it freshness, precision and an explosion of fruit.

A beautifully expressive Merlot showing the attractive flavours we associate with this grape variety. The wine has a ripe, red fruit flavour with some delicate chocolate and orange peel undertones.

Maison Ventenac

Hailing from the Cabardès AOC in the northwest of Languedoc, wife and husband team Stéphanie and Olivier Ramé are the third generation of their family to farm in this promising region not far from the city of Carcassonne. Their unique range of wines deliberately eschew the stringent appellation laws of their home region in favour of pursuing qualities beyond those simply expected of them. Vines are organically farmed, with much of their production achieving certification in 2021.

Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon, situated in southern France, is renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with abundant sunshine, hot summers, and mild winters, ideal for viticulture. Languedoc-Roussillon produces a wide variety of wines, including robust reds from grape varieties like Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, as well as crisp, refreshing whites and rosés. The area is also known for its excellent sparkling wines, particularly Crémant de Limoux. The diverse terroir, ranging from coastal plains to mountainous areas, and a mix of traditional and innovative winemaking techniques result in wines with distinctive character and depth.
