Five miles from the English Channel, on a low, free-draining slope in the East Sussex village of Herstmonceux, there is a vineyard that was planted in 2007 by a man who used to design Formula One cars. Lawrence Warr spent eighteen months looking for the right combination of soil, aspect and altitude before he found it, and named the place after a French ancestor who fled Paris during the Revolution.
That obsessive attention to detail never really left. Henners sits close enough to the sea that salt air rolls through the rows, and the wines carry it: a saline lift that runs underneath the brioche and orchard fruit you expect from long ageing on lees. The house style leans on patience and blending rather than sugar, which is why these wines taste finished rather than sweetened.
Eve Elliott, brand ambassador for Henners, is hosting the evening. She will take you through the range, the sites and the thinking behind the wines, and answer the questions you actually want to ask rather than the ones the back label answers.
