Tasting note

A beautifully balanced, indulgent style, marrying the nutty complexity of an Oloroso with the rich sweetness of Pedro Ximénez. Deep amber in colour, it opens with inviting aromas of toasted hazelnuts, raisins, toffee, and a hint of orange peel. The palate is velvety and luscious yet impressively fresh, offering layers of dried fruit, caramel, and a touch of dark chocolate, all lifted by a gentle, mouth-watering acidity. Smooth and lingering on the finish, it’s a wonderfully versatile sherry perfect for pairing with cheeses, desserts, or simply savouring on its own.

Producer

Hidalgo La Gitana

Bodegas Hildago La Gitana was founded in 1792 by Don José Pantaleón Hidalgo and since then the company has been passed down from father to son, and today it is one of the few wine companies in the area managed by the family and directed by the eighth generation in direct line of the founder. During the 19th century the company grew to become one of the most important producers of Manzanilla in the world.

Region

Jerez

Jerez, located in southwestern Spain, is the heart of the Sherry wine production region, renowned for its exceptional fortified wines. The area benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, ideal for viticulture.
It is globally celebrated for its Sherry wines, including a range of styles such as Fino, known for its dry and crisp character; Amontillado, with its nutty and complex profile; and Oloroso, which offers rich, robust flavours. It also produces sweet Sherry wines, such as those made from the Pedro Ximénez grape, known for their luscious, raisin-like sweetness.
Historically, Jerez’s winemaking tradition dates back to ancient times, with significant development during the Moorish period and subsequent influence from Spanish and British trade. Today, it remains a cornerstone of Sherry production, blending centuries-old techniques with modern innovations to produce some of Spain’s most distinguished wines.
