A splendid ruby red colour. A bouquet of red berry fruit, floral notes and lifted aromas of mediterranean maquis and spices, especially nutmeg and pepper. The palate shows great balance, with fine tannins and pleasant juicy fruit which gives it a long and deep finish.
Pairs well with roast or braised meats with mushrooms, aged cheeses and rich, structured dishes.

Assemblage: Nerello Mascalese 55%, Nerello Cappuccio 25%, Nocera 10%, Nero d'avola 10%. Aged in French oak barrels for 9 months and matured for a further 6 months in bottle.
Founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and Andrea Barzagli, Le Casematte is situated within the Messina Province of Sicily. The winery owes its name to the presence of two small forts or 'pillboxes' situated in the vineyard that date back to WW1. The vineyard overlooks the Straight of Messina, the stretch of sea that separates Calabria from Sicilia. Le Casematte's currently has 14 hectares under vine, at an altitude between 820 and 1,215 feet above sea level.
