Le Casematte Peloro Bianco Doc Sicilia 2023

A persistent bouquet of iodine mineral notes combined with aromas of white and yellow pulp fruit, alongside floral nuances of mimosa and chamomile and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is fresh and savoury, vibrant with acidity and rich in fruit.

"More steely and tense than the varietal Grillo. Wild herbs and fresh citrus. Intense, bone dry, much more tension than on the Grillo. -16.5 Points." Julia Harding MW, (April 2023)

Grillo 65%, Carricante 35% fermented separately and matured in stainless steel for four to six months. After blending, the wine spends another three months in bottle before release.

Founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and Andrea Barzagli, Le Casematte is situated within the Messina Province of Sicily. The winery owes its name to the presence of two small forts or 'pillboxes' situated in the vineyard that date back to WW1. The vineyard overlooks the Straight of Messina, the stretch of sea that separates Calabria from Sicilia. Le Casematte's currently has 14 hectares under vine, at an altitude between 820 and 1,215 feet above sea level.
