Grand cru Chablis quality from the far side of the world. In Opposites Attract, a one-off blind tasting held this summer to set New Zealand Chardonnay against the finest white burgundy, Low Burn Estate 2024 was the only wine to win its flight in all three venues: Christchurch, London and Burgundy itself. It left Louis Jadot’s Les Clos, William Fèvre’s Les Preuses and Moreau-Naudet’s Valmur in its wake, at less than half their price. The flight was so close in style that even Jancis Robinson MW couldn’t tell New Zealand from Chablis.
In the glass it is all tension and allure: white flowers and lemon zest, ripe stone fruit coiled around a steely, saline core, and a finish that simply refuses to quit.
