Description

On the nose, extremely fresh ripe black fruits aromas combined with floral notes ending in hints of liquor and chocolate. Rich, full and complex on the palate with bold flavours, all the while maintaining its defining elegance. Succulent tannins contribute to a very long and delicious finish.

Pairs perfectly with steak, venison and strong cheeses.

Foot trodden in granite lagares for an evening before being transferred to stainless-steel vats for fermentation. Matured for 20 months in used French oak casks. 60% Touriga Nacional, 40% mixed field.

The terroir in the Douro is still largely unexplored and by making wines with harmony and equilibrium from the vineyards, Quinta de la Rosa try to enable the grapes to express themselves in the bottle. The La Rosa style is to make well defined wines without too much extraction, tannin or oak. Wines that are rich and full bodied whilst being fresh and lively with a good acidity and minerality.

"50% Touriga Nacional, 47% Touriga Franca, and 3% field-blend old vines. Foot trodden in granite lagares for an evening before being transferred to stainless-steel vats for fermentation. Matured for 20 months in new (40%) and used (60%) French oak casks. Bottled in April 2024. TA 5.5 g/l, pH 3.63.
Colour as dark as elderberry juice. Intense aroma that expresses both these Douro varieties and the rocky Douro landscape – deep and powerful dark fruit but also a stony/rocky impression of the hot terraces, dusty in the heat. Beautifully refined, dry tannins, already elegant even though they are not fully resolved. There's a sober quality to the tannins that is the perfect counterpoint to the depth of fruit. The oak is there but not intrusive. Long, bone dry and refined. Drink to 2036."

"Black and red cherry fruit on the nose alongside cloves and licorice. Chocolate and cedar too. It’s creamy and full-bodied with velvety tannins and a long, polished finish. Mostly touriga nacional and touriga franca. Drink now or hold."

Quinta de La Rosa

Quinta de la Rosa was purchased in 1906 as a christening present for Claire Bergqvist (the current owner’s, Sophia, grandmother). The estate sold the grapes they grew to winemakers. Sophia and her father Tim relaunched Quinta de la Rosa in 1988 and started making port under their own label and soon after they produced their first wine. With the help of winemaker David Baverstock, La Rosa became one of the pioneers in producing Douro table wine using indigenous port grapes.

Douro Valley

The Douro Valley, located in northern Portugal, is a historic and renowned wine region known for its exceptional Port and table wines. Recognised as one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, it was officially regulated in 1756. The valley's dramatic landscape, characterised by steep terraced vineyards along the Douro River, creates a unique terroir that is ideal for viticulture.
The area is particularly famous for its Port wines, which range from rich and robust Vintage Ports to smooth and sweet Tawny Ports, crafted from indigenous grapes like Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. It also produces high-quality red and white table wines, with rich, full-bodied reds and aromatic whites from local varieties such as Touriga Franca and Viosinho. The combination of historical winemaking traditions and modern practices makes the Douro Valley a compelling and storied wine region.
