Description

Sauvignon Blanc is much loved for its freshness, mouth-watering acidity and upfront fruit. Rustenberg makes two styles of Sauvignon Blanc: an unwooded but slightly fuller, richer style of Sauvignon Blanc; and a newer addition to the range - a small batch of wooded, wild ferment Sauvignon Blanc.

Melon, white peach, gooseberry, and underlying tones of pineapple. The intrinsic Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of green pepper, asparagus and gooseberry are to be found in this wine. Rich, rounded palate with well-integrated oak. Ageing potential: Enjoy upon release, potentially could age for 5 to 10 years.

Grown at some of the highest altitudes that vineyards are grown at in the Stellenbosch region; just over 550m above sea level, right against the Simonsberg Mountain. The cooling effect of altitude and the oceanic breeze blowing off False Bay and Table Bay, which are both within line of sight of the vineyards, combined with the vineyards being planted on South and West facing slopes make this ideal for the production of a full flavoured, more tropical style.

This wine is made with the influence of oak, fermented and aged in barrel using the wild yeast present on the grapes at the time of harvesting and aged on lees for further palate weight and complexity to balance out the wines' natural acidity.

Rustenberg Wines

In 1941 Peter and Pamela Barlow bought Rustenberg. Their son Simon took over the running of the farm in 1987. Simon’s son, Murray, joined in the running of the farm with his father in 2012. The Barlows have been at Rustenberg for over 75 years. With a long and very proud history of producing exceptional wines, Rustenberg’s winemaking style is simple: Produce quality wines true to the style of the Estate and the brand.

Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch, located in South Africa’s Western Cape, is one of the country’s most renowned wine regions, celebrated for its premium wines and prestigious vineyards. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, perfect for cultivating high-quality grapes.
The area is particularly known for its robust reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which exhibit deep fruit flavours and complex, well-structured profiles. The whites, such as Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, are noted for their crisp acidity and vibrant fruit character.
Historically, Stellenbosch is significant as it was one of the first areas settled by Dutch colonists in the late 17th century. The wine industry in Stellenbosch began to develop in the 19th century, and today, it remains a cornerstone of South Africa’s wine heritage, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation to produce exceptional wines.
