Description

Tbilvino Qvevris Rkatsiteli 2021 is a distinguished amber wine from Georgia's Kakheti region, crafted using the ancient qvevri method. This traditional technique involves fermenting the Rkatsiteli grapes in clay amphorae buried underground, allowing for full maceration over approximately five months. This process imparts the wine with its characteristic amber hue and complex flavour profile.

The wine opens with an aromatic bouquet of white flowers, tropical fruits, quince, and other orchard fruits. On the palate, it reveals elegant and intense flavours of peach, apricot, and quince, complemented by subtle notes of buckwheat honey and walnut. The finish is long and refreshing, with a lively acidity and a subtle tannic grip, making it an excellent accompaniment to food.

After harvesting, the grapes are crushed, and the juice, along with skins and pips, is placed into qvevri—traditional clay amphorae—which are then sealed and buried underground. Fermentation occurs naturally over approximately five months, during which the conical shape of the qvevri allows yeast and sediment to settle at the bottom, facilitating natural circulation of the wine. This method maintains a constant temperature, enhancing the wine's unique characteristics.

This amber wine pairs exceptionally well with barbecued lamb, goat's cheese salad, or seafood, complementing a variety of dishes with its complex flavour profile.

For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine slightly chilled, around 12–14°C.
