Description

From the oustanding 2016 vintage, this is a modern wine and one of great beauty. It is red in colour with warm, granite tones and aromas of red and black berries that gradually give way to notes of tobacco, oriental spices, liquorice and chocolate. These are confirmed in the mouth. The flavour is full and expressive, dominated by the rich fruit and refined tannins. Il Sigillo is smooth, with a density that is balanced by its freshness.

Long-lasting and lingering, the wine offers pleasant sensations of fruit, spices, and hints of refreshing eucalyptus.

Cantine del Notaio is a relatively new winery, located amidst the volcanic landscape of Mount Vulture. It was born in 1998 from the vision of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti and his wife, Marcella, who set out to restore the estate that once belonged to Gerardo’s grandfather.

This wine will age comfortably for 10+ years, and is worth revisiting to enjoy it at different stages of maturity.

Cantine del Notaio practices sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking techniques, ageing their wines in volcanic caves to enhance their complexity and character. Their wines, particularly La Firma and Il Sigillo, are celebrated for their richness, structure, and ageing potential.

Basilicata

Basilicata, a region in southern Italy known for its rugged landscapes and rich history, is gaining recognition for its distinctive wines. It benefits from a varied climate and diverse soils, contributing to the unique character of its wines. The area is particularly renowned for Aglianico del Vulture, a robust red made from the Aglianico grape, offering deep, complex flavours with notes of dark fruit, spice, and a characteristic minerality from the volcanic soils of Mount Vulture. It also produces interesting whites, such as those from the Greco and Malvasia grapes, known for their fresh acidity and aromatic profiles. Combining traditional winemaking techniques with a growing focus on quality, Basilicata provides a distinctive and emerging wine experience.
