Tasting note

Chateau Yvonne is renowned for its meticulous and sophisticated style, offering a delightful experience to those who appreciate Cabernet Franc. On the palate, it presents a classic combination of leafy cassis fruit and capsicum, with the fruit's ripeness being well-balanced. The wine's nose is described as earthy and savoury, with bright blackcurrant fruit, wet leaves, and iron, as well as a slightly smoky character and herbal undertones.

Tasters have observed its minerality on the palate, leading to a salty sensation towards the finish. While the tannins are present, they are not overwhelming, suggesting that the wine is already enjoyable, but will continue to improve with time in the cellar.

Château Yvonne, in Parnay on the Loire, dates back to the 16th century. After a hiatus post-WWI, Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière revived it in 1997, focusing on dry Chenin Blanc. In 2007, Mathieu Vallée expanded the estate, adding Cabernet Franc. Joined by Stéphanie in 2015, they introduced sustainable practices, built an energy-efficient winery in 2019, and began experimenting with Pineau d’Aunis. Their recent agroforestry project blends vines with pear trees, emphasising terroir and biodiversity.

Stretching along the Loire River, it benefits from a varied climate and a range of soil types, ideal for viticulture. It is particularly famous for its white wines, including the crisp and mineral-rich Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the aromatic Chenin Blanc from Vouvray and Saumur. The area also produces excellent reds, such as the light and fruity Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil. Rosé and sparkling wines, like Crémant de Loire, add to the diversity of the region. With its rich winemaking heritage, varied terroirs, and high-quality wines, the Loire Valley offers an exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking both classic and innovative wines.
