Description

From a south-west facing premier cru with Cistercian roots stretching back to the 12th century, the Justin Girardin Morgeot Blanc 2024 is a tightly wound, serious white Burgundy that is still very much finding its feet. Pale lemon in the glass, the nose takes a little coaxing but gradually reveals a significant weight of white fruit, lemon, lime and a cool minerality that speaks clearly of the clay-limestone and iron-rich marl soils beneath. On the palate it is precise and structured, with real power and length held in check by a discreet, almost reticent character that suggests there is considerably more to come with time. Fermented with natural yeasts, first in vat then in barrel, the winemaking is careful and unhurried, and the result is a Chardonnay of genuine substance and charm. Drinking well now with the right food, but best set aside for a few years yet, with the window running comfortably through to 2033 and beyond.
