Description

Grown in Hermannshöhle, the Nahe region's most renowned and highest rated vineyard site, where vines up to 75 years old thrive on a perfect, steep south facing slope of black grey slate, volcanic igneous rock, porphyry and limestone, this outstanding noble sweet Auslese ranks among the world's finest Rieslings. Crafted from fully ripe berries meticulously hand selected, berry by berry, from clusters originally destined for Spätlese, the selection incorporating the finest botrytised fruit, it was gently pressed in an antique basket press before fermentation and ageing in stainless steel tanks to preserve its elegant Auslese character. The nose is fresh and intensely concentrated, with ripe fruit, delicate raisin and citrus notes blending harmoniously with nuances of slate, presenting exotic fruit aromas in balance with magnificent, mineral rich acidity, while the palate is full bodied, concentrated, rich and delicate yet refined and infinitely elegant, lingering for minutes with a persistent, crystalline, saline acidity that ensures a precise, complex finish.
