The Dr. Loosen Riesling Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr 2003, now well-aged, showcases beautifully developed characteristics that add depth and complexity to the wine. With over two decades of maturation, it reveals rich notes of caramel, dried apricots, and baked apple, alongside a distinctive touch of kerosene that’s typical of aged Rieslings. The sweetness, while still present, has softened, perfectly balanced by the wine’s bright, lively acidity, ensuring it never feels cloying. Layers of dried fruit, honey, and a gentle minerality from the vineyard’s slate soil round out the palate, culminating in a long, harmonious finish that speaks to the wine’s exceptional balance and evolution.

The Loosen family has been growing Riesling and producing wine in the Mosel valley for over 200 years. The current owner, Ernst “Erni” Loosen, has become one of the most iconic and influential winemakers in the world. Today Dr. Loosen is internationally regarded as the figurehead for a rediscovered German Riesling culture. Since 1993, the winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Quality Wineries).
