Dr. Loosen Riesling Spatlese Erdener Treppchen 2003

Description

"Spätlese" is a predicate for quality wines. The grapes are riper than the "Kabinett". With us, Spätlese are semi sweet wines that are characterised by their low alcohol content. They are full-bodied, deep and complex.

This vineyard is directly adjacent to the eastern side of the Prälat and is so steep that, centuries ago, stone steps were built into the hillside so that workers could reach the vines more easily. If the wines from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr seem like a graceful "ballerina," those from the Treppchen resemble muscular free-style climbers. The iron-rich, red slate soil produces wines that are full-flavoured, racy and complex, with an intense mineral aftertaste.

"Very anise on the expressive nose, then a compact and racy palate with a ton of white tree fruits. Very vinous and well-structured, this is seriously on the dry side for a category often regarded as medium-sweet. Very long, crushed stone finish. Drink or hold.
94 points."
