Description

Liatiko Aggelis vineyard was planted in 1930 with Liatiko vines on their own native rootstock. Producing small berry, low yielding grapes with exceptional intensity of flavour, the wine is fermented in open oak barrels with no temperature control or fining.

Ruby colour. Aromas of berry fruits marmalade and cherry with sweet spicy notes in the bouquet. Balanced with firm acidity. The mouthfeel is fruit-driven with some mixed berries and a touch of sweet oak while the tannins are nicely structured. A wine of good length and persistence with lots of potential.

Lyrarakis

Lyrarakis Winery is a pioneering Cretan estate focused on preserving indigenous grape varieties and expressing the island’s diverse terroir. It produces wines from native grapes like Vidiano, Dafni, and Liatiko alongside international varieties. Winemaking emphasizes low intervention, careful vineyard selection, and modern precision while respecting traditional methods. Techniques include gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation, and selective oak use. The result is aromatic whites with freshness and minerality, and reds with herbal complexity, Mediterranean character, and distinctive regional identity.

Crete

Crete has a long winemaking history dating back to antiquity, producing wines shaped by its warm Mediterranean climate and mountainous terrain. Winemakers across the island focus on indigenous grape varieties such as Vidiano, Liatiko, Kotsifali, and Vilana, often combining traditional methods with modern precision. The style ranges from vibrant, mineral-driven whites to structured sun-ripened reds with herbal complexity. Today a new generation of producers emphasizes quality terroir expression and sustainable viticulture helping Cretan wine recognition for distinctive character and authenticity.
