"A new enterprise specialising in old Cinsault at 400 m. Mid to deep crimson. Wonderfully honest and fruity. What's not to like? Not sure I can see the appellation's signature schist in this wine – or at least it's subsumed by the varietal fruit. Round and appealing red-cherry fruit but then there is just the right amount of acidity – not much tannin – but an exuberant riposte to the average Faugeres with a long savoury finish. Mas Lou

Founded by Adèle Arnaud and Olivier Gil in 2014 in Haut-Languedoc, Faugères. Mas Lou produce wines made predominately form Syrah and old Carignans, with some grenache, Mourvèdre and hairy grenache also used. The domain is small at 8ha, composed of vines that are very old (in particular the Carignans) and the winemaking is done by isolating every part of the domain. Wines are produced with attention, skill and a lot of love, the best vintages are aged in oak barrels.
