Sourced entirely from the Monte Bello estate vineyards on fractured limestone soils high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this is a Chardonnay that rewards attention. 2023 was one of the longest and coolest growing seasons in recent years, with a drawn-out harvest that preserved varietal character while promoting the mineral and citrus accents typical of the site. The nose is poised and complex, with poached pear, lemon curd and a gentle vanilla note from judicious oak. After barrel fermentation, the wine spent nine months on the lees, giving the palate a lovely creamy texture that is kept honest by bright, saline acidity and real mineral drive on the finish. A seriously impressive bottle.
