Shafer Vineyards

The property at Shafer has been the site of winemaking since Napa Valley’s first boom in 1880. John Shafer purchased the site in 1972 and began planting the hillside estate to Cabernet Sauvignon making his first wine in 1978. Later, Doug Shafer and Elias Fernandez joined the winery, as winemaker and assistant winemaker. In 2002 Elias was named Food & Wine’s “Winemaker of the Year”. The team continue to make wines the trademark Shafer style of elegance, richness, and balance.
