Description

Behind the Torabhaig distillery lies the Sound of Sleat, a narrow and powerful stretch of sea dividing Skye from the mainland. Known in Gaelic as Linne Shlèite, it has inspired what the distillery describes as the fourth chapter in its series.

Sound of Sleat is the fourth release in the Torabhaig Legacy Series, charting the evolution of the distillery’s signature style of ‘Smoke with Taste’. The expression is crafted from a blend of Concerto and Laureate malted barley, peated to 78 PPM+, and fermented using 100 per cent Pinnacle MG yeast over a 72-hour period.

The whisky is matured exclusively in Quercus Alba American oak. This includes first-fill heavily toasted barrels shipped directly from the cooperage, first-fill Bourbon barrels typically aged four to six years from Kentucky, and refill Bourbon barrels that may have seen more than ten years of use in the distillery’s own warehouses. It is bottled at 46 per cent ABV without chill filtration or added colouring.

The result is a deeply expressive single malt, offering delicate notes of orange, apricot and sweet maritime seaweed on the nose, followed by a rich palate of bonfire smoke, honey and sea salt. The finish is lingering and elegant, capturing the spirit of storms, sunsets and the wild Sound of Sleat.
