A field blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca and Rufete, harvested from older, leased vineyards neighbouring Companhia de Vinhos' property in Casais de Douro, with the grapes chilled overnight before triage and destemming; this is a complex, spicy and aromatic wine, rich in dark fruit flavours and underpinned by minerality from the region's schist soils, supported by generous oak aromatics, while the palate is rich and full, with layers of texture, firm yet elegant tannins and a lengthy finish. Fermented warm using wild, indigenous yeasts, the wine underwent a short post-fermentation maceration before being racked to barrel shortly after pressing for malolactic fermentation, then aged for 18 months in French oak (30% new) before assemblage, fining with the plant based agent Vegecol and bottling with a coarse filtration.
