This VDP.Ortswein (village wine) from Schloßböckelheim serves as an ambassador for the village, sourced from the distinctive Große Lage (Grand Cru) Felsenberg vineyard, specifically its younger plots with an average vine age of around 20 years, where vines grow under extreme conditions on soils formed from weathered volcanic rock; this stony, easily warmed ground gives the wine a character highly typical of the site, shaped by the hard volcanic rock of Felsenberg and manifesting in characteristic notes of flint alongside a smoky, crystalline minerality, vibrant fruit and mineral acidity, with the wines from here enjoying an excellent worldwide reputation for their unique flint notes. Following a selective hand harvest, the grapes were gently pressed and matured in stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels, to create a true classic from the Dönnhoff estate.
